From Sister G. Vonarx

I can’t believe another week has already passed. Last Sunday we attended a Relief Society devotional in Rita Ward. It was so fun to be surrounded by so many sisters! The talks were really good and when the Rita sisters sang “Nearer my God to Thee” I had goosebumps. It was so beautiful!

Then on Monday we said goodbye to our three Elders who got stranded here for an extra 5 days. I had no idea how hard it would be to say goodbye to all these missionaries I came to know and love. It is so amazing how many people we connect with in our lives. We might only see them for a short time but their impact can be felt for years.

You are probably wondering why I am sharing photos of vegetables & fruit but this is why. For the past 3 weeks we have had a shortage of fresh vegetables and fruit on the atoll due to the war in Iran. Ships have not been coming in. Yesterday was a very happy day!! A ship came in on Friday night, so I took these photos of our main grocery store yesterday. So grateful and excited to eat spinach, broccoli, peppers & carrots! Living here I am learning to let go and let God.

Every six weeks I put out a poster on our front counter with a question for all our missionaries to answer. This time it was How does the Spirit speak to you? Check it out so far.

Yesterday, on my P-day I took a 1-hour class at the handicraft store and learned how to make a necklace out of dried coconut palm frond. As you will see in the photo you hold the strands between your toes. It was so fun to learn!
I was telling one of the senior sisters that I would be so disappointed if I did not change and grow from serving my mission. Change is hard but isn’t that what life is all about? Listening to the Spirit and becoming the best version of ourselves? So grateful for Jesus Christ for second chances, for opportunities to rethink, and to learn from each other. Excited for another week of learning and growing! Enjoy your week!
