It has been a busy fun week! We had Zone Conferences. I am in charge of the lunch each day which is fun but a lot of work so I always breathe a sigh of relief when it is over. This time my desert was a big hit. I made Pineapple upside down cake. I am always trying to come up with different kinds of cakes so if you have any ideas, I would love to hear them! Our theme for our conferences was Adopting the culture of Christ. One speaker shared that when we allow God to change us miraculous things can happen. I know that is true! Ijela ke ewor juon karok jan Aniz kon koj. (I know that there is a plan from God for us). The real question is will we find out what it is and do it? We always take a funny photo after so here is one from our East Zone Conference. Why not!
The other excitement this week was May 1 Jemenei Day. It is also called Constitution Day which marks the adoption of the constitution on May 1, 1979 and honors the nation’s independence and cultural identity. The event was cancelled on May 1st due to rain all day but that made it possible for Sister Owen and I to attend on P-day on May 2nd! There were sports events, a grand opening with speeches, cultural performances and a battle of the bands. There was even a grandmother, maybe even a great grandmother who went on stage with her walker and Ukulele and played and sang a song about the Marshall Islands with her grandchildren. I could not understand the song but everyone around me was laughing so the song must have been really funny! The dances are so interesting to watch because they all tell a story and it seems to me Marshallese people have the beat of the music in their blood, even little children. They are amazing and I love to watch them dance! Constitutional Day was celebrated in style.
