The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the calling of two new Canadian Area Seventies, strengthening Church leadership across Canada.
Of particular interest to members in British Columbia, Elder M. Shayne Olsen of Kamloops, BC has been called to serve as an Area Seventy in the Tenth Quorum of the Seventy. He is joined by Elder Kevin C. Thompson of Calgary, Alberta. Both were sustained during the April 2026 General Conference leadership meeting.
Area Seventies provide part-time ecclesiastical service, supporting local leaders throughout their assigned areas while helping strengthen the Church and minister to members. They serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and work under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
For members here on Vancouver Island and throughout the Nanaimo Stake, Elder Olsen’s call is especially meaningful. Having a new Area Seventy from British Columbia highlights the continued growth and strength of the Church in our province and brings leadership with a deep understanding of the unique needs of members across Western Canada.
